“Relieved of duty”

A US Navy cruiser ran aground near Hawaii.

The event seems rather innocuous; after all, there was no loss of life or serious damage to the vessel. But in Naval culture, it’s usually a career-ender for the Captain.

I imagine we’ll see him behind a desk, or ‘permanently relieved of duty,’ Navy-speak for forcibly retired.
