Harry who?

I’ve never read one, and don’t plan to. Nor have I seen any of the movies.

But I’ve been tracking the sales, because the numbers are simply astonishing. To date, the series has accounted for an estimated 340 million books sold. The newest book was selling over 300,000 copies per hour when first released.

Now, if Rowling were making a typical royalty, say 8% of the cover price, and the discount retail price is $14.95, she would make roughly $408 million. This is very conservative, because her deal is certainly much more favorable.

And that doesn’t include movie money. Or licensing the toys, school supplies, etc. etc.  This revenue certainly matches the book sales, and probably exceeds it.

A billionaire author. I find this extremely cool, and am glad to see that books are still important, especially to kids.
