Read MoreAn excellent article on my buddy, Jimmy Graham:
U.S. Navy Seal Chief Jim Graham said he jumped at the chance to speak for a veterans lunch held at the Holiday Inn Wednesday by the Gallatin County Republican Woman.
Graham was part of a nationwide motorcycle ride undertaken by a group of Navy SEALs this summer. The month-long cross country trek honored SEAL Lance Vaccaro who was killed in a 2008 training exercise.
The Lance Vaccaro Memorial Ride swung through the area on June 22. GCRW sponsored a gathering for the men at Yellowstone Harley Davidson, which ended up being the largest event set up for the group during the entire trip.
“We just wanted to thank them,” Graham said. “They asked me if I could come and speak here and I said ‘absolutely.'”
The GCRW’s goal, he said, was for the riders not to spend a dollar while in the Bozeman area.
“And we didn’t. Hotels were donated, even the gas, food, everything. We were guests here, very well taken care of, then they sent us on our way up north to continue our ride,” he said.
About 130 people attended the veterans lunch. GCRW members said it is a nonpolitical event. Any veterans attending got to eat for free.
Graham currently lives in Helena with his wife and children.
