OMG it’s teh swine flu!

So I woke up this morning with a fever, and an uncontrollable urge to crawl on the living room floor and oink.
Should a I be concerned?

If you know me, you know I tend to skew to the funny.  But this flu is serious business, and while I normally abhor the media’s knee-jerk alarmist reaction to the smallest matters, I’m actually glad they’re kicking up a sh*t-storm about swine flu.

Let’s face it;  those of you reading this have no issues with hygiene.  But there are millions of clueless boneheads out there sneezing and hacking and tossing used tissues about with no concern for your health or mine, and in a world of international flights and rampant border-jumping, this can be worrisome to this father of three.

Yesterday I got a call from my buddy Taco, proprietor of the excellent blog ‘The SandGram.’ In addition to his work as a crack pilot for Uncle Sugar’s Marine Corps, he flies for a commercial airline that hops in and out of Mexico on a daily basis.  He has real concerns about the swine flu virus, and has an excellent post over on his blog.  Go have a look when you’re finished here.

As it is now, you’re more likely to die from a snakebite than swine flu.  Let’s hope it stays that way.

Spy loses top-secret files left in purse

A British agent left top secret information about covert operations on a bus in South America when she lost her handbag while on assignment.

The drugs liaison officer lost a computer memory stick said to contain a list of undercover agents’ names and details with more than five years of intelligence work.

It happened when the MI6-trained agent left her handbag on a transit coach at El Dorado airport in Bogota, Colombia. Intelligence chiefs were forced to wind up operations and relocate dozens of agents and informants amid fears the device could fall into the hands of drugs barons.

The agent’s employer, the Serious Organised Crime Agency, Saturday confirmed the data loss but said it had happened soon after the agency had been set up in 2006, “while staff were still working to the data-handling policies of precursor agencies.”

More talking-head idiocy…

A U.S. airline is now selling “penis” on flights, an anchorwoman has declared.

The slip-up happened on CNN when anchorwoman Zain Verjee was reporting about Northwest Airlines now selling peanuts on flights.
Verjee mentioned the word “penis” three times instead of “peanuts.”

“Northwest began serving penis this month as its merger partner Atlanta-based Delta airlines has done for years,” Verjee said.
“Georgia is the top penis producing state in the country.”

The footage has been uploaded to YouTube in many different versions and has become an internet sensation with more than 700,000 views today.

Perhaps the caption at the bottom of the screen distracted her – it declared “nuts on Northwest flights.”

More Hollywood mediocrity…

Hollywood continues to spiral downward, due mainly to the huge number of bad films that have flooded the market since digital video became accessible to the hoi polloi. Video stores are chock full of crappy ‘films’ that never made it to theaters, and for good reason: They suck.

In fact, the recent Oscar winner, Slumdog Millionaire, was almost cast (caste, heh) off to DVD oblivion, but rescued at the last minute.
Slumdog is a decent film. But Oscar worthy? Hell-to-the-no.

Here’s an interesting analysis that echoes my opinions on the state of the average DVD release. They bypass theaters and go straight to DVD for a reason: they SUCK.

Come on, Hollywood. With all those geniuses out there, you should be cranking out some watchable movies. Guess we better wait for your bailout checks to arrive. That’ll fix everything.
