Yep, that’s what I pay for health and dental insurance, out-of-pocket, every month.  I’m self-employed and that’s part of the game.

With that, I get superior service and peace of mind.  I can also fire the insurance company if they start to suck, and hire a new one.

I also pay the mortgage, car note, car insurance and food bill.  I don’t expect you to pay for any of those, so why should I expect you to pay for my health insurance?

OMG it’s teh swine flu!

So I woke up this morning with a fever, and an uncontrollable urge to crawl on the living room floor and oink.
Should a I be concerned?

If you know me, you know I tend to skew to the funny.  But this flu is serious business, and while I normally abhor the media’s knee-jerk alarmist reaction to the smallest matters, I’m actually glad they’re kicking up a sh*t-storm about swine flu.

Let’s face it;  those of you reading this have no issues with hygiene.  But there are millions of clueless boneheads out there sneezing and hacking and tossing used tissues about with no concern for your health or mine, and in a world of international flights and rampant border-jumping, this can be worrisome to this father of three.

Yesterday I got a call from my buddy Taco, proprietor of the excellent blog ‘The SandGram.’ In addition to his work as a crack pilot for Uncle Sugar’s Marine Corps, he flies for a commercial airline that hops in and out of Mexico on a daily basis.  He has real concerns about the swine flu virus, and has an excellent post over on his blog.  Go have a look when you’re finished here.

As it is now, you’re more likely to die from a snakebite than swine flu.  Let’s hope it stays that way.
